November 2007 - Some Sharing ...

Where can we hear God’s voice?

We often hear people saying, where can we hear God’s voice? Do they really know what they want? Do they really want to listen to God’s words? I think in most cases, people just need some “daily guidance” or “advice” from God, so they desperately saying where could I hear God’s voice in this matter?

But the Scripture does not say that every time we need to make a decision, God will speak to our ear to show us the “correct one”. Instead in Hebrews 1:1-2, we read “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son…”

Do we really want to listen to God? Do we really in need of hearing God’s word? Why does the author of Hebrews tell us that God has spoken to us by his Son. What is so special about his Son? What does this Son said or done that really considered as the Voice/Words of God?

What is the main theme/story in Hebrews? It is about how a sinner can become righteous before a righteous and holy God? What is the solution then? Hebrews gives us two solutions. Solution one, people have to bring animals that without defect to sacrifice to God. The animal reminds the sinner that God is just in demanding a pure and perfect sacrifice. (Hebrews 10:3)

But how can we have peace with God through the blood of animals? Or even through our own blood? Therefore Solution One seems not working. Solution one is preparing us to wait upon another solution. That is Solution Two. It is also a final and perfect Solution.

God, in the whole epistle of Hebrews is speaking to us this Solution Two. God is telling us that only by his Son redemptive works we can be declared righteous in his sight. Only through his Son’s blood on the cross and his body as a perfect sacrifice (Hebrews 7:26) that we can have certainty of our sins being washed and forgiven. This is not arrogant to say that we have assurance of sins being forgiven. Why, because we do not say that on our own basis. It is God who says and declares that we are righteous in his sight on account of Jesus Christ.

Do we really want to listen to God? Do we really in need of hearing God’s word? What is our real need? And what is our felt need?
