“Since I always struggle with my old nature, is there any
way to increase my faith to fight this battle and live
victoriously?” This is the question that has been
raised among Christians for a long time.
How do we increase our faith? But first of all, we have
to ask ourselves, could faith be quantified? Could faith
be measured? Whenever Bible requires us to have faith in
God, does it at the same time, show us the stages of faith
we should/must attain? (in order to obtain blessings from
God or be pleasing to God) Such as level 30, level 60, or
level 100?
By definition, faith is an object. Faith is not dwelling
inside us. Therefore there is no way to measure the level
of faith in my heart/in my brain! If a Christian so concern
about how to increase his /her faith, then this concern has
become idolatry. It is because he/she put so much emphasis
on himself/herself, it becomes self-centered
rather than Christ centered.
After becoming a Christian, the law of God is still
remains in our heart, and active in us day and night. The
purpose of the law is to accuse us of our sins of commission
and of omission. Therefore how could we look inside ourselves
to increase “higher level” of faith? We have to look outside
of ourselves and gaze upon the crucified Christ on the Cross,
for by his completed redemptive works, He has secured the
faith on our behalf. When we say the “completed redemptive
works” of Christ, that means His saving grace is more than
enough to cover, to uphold, to sustain your little faith or
doubting minds. In other words, even you feel that you are in
level 10 of faith at this moment, but that does not erase the
object that is outside of yourself. And whenever we look to
Crucified Christ and Risen Christ, we know that in him
(not in us) we already possessed the victory. It is because
He is our savior and He will save us from first to last.
“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the
Son of Man (Jesus) must be lifted up, that everyone who
believes in him (Jesus) may have eternal life”
( John 3:14-15 ) Amen.
